Travel Essentials

I’ll skip the basic items like toiletries and underwear that an experienced person like you can easily identify to pack on your next trip. Instead, I’ll list the things that took research in order to determine this is something I needed, as well as the reasons I went with this particular brand/model.

Technology

Universal Travel Power Adapter by Epicka

When I traveled to Jordan, Egypt, Maldives, Malaysia, Singapore, and Dubai, this adapter worked in every single country. Grace and I each had our own for our devices. The 4-usb ports were used to charge our phone, Apple watch, power bank, and one additional device.

This adapter does not convert voltage. With larger appliances, be sure to plug in devices that have a separate adapter capable of handling the voltage of the country. Grace’s rechargeable Dyson straightener has an adapter that supports 100-240V. Same with my MacBook Air, the square white adapter supports 100-240V.

Comes in 4 colors: white, rose gold, grey, and space grey.

Gimbal Smartphone Stabilizer by DJI

Good entry level gimbal to take stabilized videos. All my trip videos were taken with this. Different gimbal functions unleash creativity. The extendable handle adds extra height, or length, to take videos and photos from different perspectives. I also use this to record videos for my food recipe Instagram reels.

Black Diamond Spot Rechargeable Headlamp

For the sunrise hike up Lion’s Head in Capetown, South Africa, a headlamp is a necessary tool to make it up either trail to the peak. What sold me was the high number of hours of use between charges; 4 hours on high (400 lumens), 8 hours on medium (200 lumens), and 225 hours on low (6 lumens).

For the battery-powered version and more affordable version: Black Diamond Spot 400

I’ll report back if this fits around my bike helmet because I need a new bike light.

Medicine

Imodium

We’ve all been there and wish it would pass quickly (pun intended). Locals have built decades of immunity against their water and food that tourists don’t have. Even if the water or ice is safe to drink, better to have this on hand just in case. You’ve got things to do and places to be, not hunting for toilets in foreign countries nor standing forever cross-legged.

Miscellaneous

Sleep Masks by Kimkoo

Set of eye masks. Traveling overnight from one destination to the next saves on hotel costs and maximizes the day time for sightseeing and eating. So getting quality sleep is of utmost importance. Perfectly comfortable for those short and long flights, even if you’re in economy. There’s a gap between the sides of my nose and the nose piece that allows light in, but you’d have to look hard down at your nose to notice it. Pair it with earplug for a great nap even on the loudest planes. So comfy I keep in my nightstand for afternoon naps.
